Halloween in Special Education
Spooky Season is Upon Us!
I LOVE celebrating holidays of all kinds with my class. When I first started in a self contained class, I focused on the day to day, and surviving the influx of IEPs, parent meeting, stake holder meetings- etc. Year two and beyond I was able to explore incorporating fun adapted holidays and plans into my programming.
This year is going to be an epic year of fun! I have some tips to share about how to incorporate Halloween or fall activities into your programming in a very intentional way within your self contained classroom environment.
Songs + Dances
My students ask for Halloween songs all throughout October. We have some tried and true Halloween song and dances that my students are obsessed with. They are linked down below. All these videos can be found on youtube, so if the link isn’t quite working then you can easily search them up on youtube seperately.

Halloween Task Boxes
My early learners engage in many different Halloween and Fall themed task boxes. I usually laminate these and use them every year. I find that my students really love these kinds of activities. They especially love when I can laminate something and let them use a dry erase marker. Something about a dry erase marker that really fires them up!
Book List (Also available on youtube)
I have a serious love for picture books, especially in my role this year! Here is a round up of simple texts that are Halloween themed to practice with your students. We are learning to sequence stories, so all these stories are able to be simply sequenced in a beginning, middle and end format.
1. The Good, the Bad and the Spooky
2. Creepy pair of underwear!
3. Scaredy Cat Splat!
4. Pete the Cat and the 5 Little Pumpkins
5. Arthur’s Halloween
