Earth Day Activities for Special Education
Earth Day is FAST approaching and we love to celebrate in our classroom! I always find it so difficult to source products for my students that they can understand and connect to at their individual levels. All my students are on modified programs with IEPs (Individual Education Plan) and need very VISUAL HEAVY special education Ontario resources! Here we have a list of special education Ontario resources, for your classroom today!
Here are a few ways you can celebrate Earth Day with your special education classes this year!
- EARTH DAY CENTERS!!
I love these centers because they are designed for special education students, are HIGHLY visual and can be done as a large group, in small groups or individually!
2. EARTH DAY ART
We LOVE doing mixed painting stamping art. All you need is blue and green paint, a sponge and an Earth template! Create your lovely art creations with your students.
3. EARTH DAY READ ALOUDS
We LOVEEE reading in our classroom. We often read the same book over the week to reinforce concepts. There are SO many Earth day read alouds (non fiction and fiction) that our students absolutely love. Most of these can be found on youtube, however I always suggest buying the book and supporting the author if you can!
Earth day is a time to reflect on our actions and encourage students to be GLOBAL THINKERS! We want our students to see the world from a global perspective, and see themselves as positive contributors. We need to be the change that we want to see in this world.
